N2O ABATEMENT IN EGYPT

Accredited by the UN CDM, revenue from this project funds abatement work, helping to decompose an estimated 98% of N2O emissions produced. Fertiliser production is an important contributor to Egypt’s economy, given the country’s reliance on agriculture but there are few regulations around nitrous oxide, a by-product of fertiliser production.

AFFORESTATION IN THE UK

This reforestation project in rural Scotland plants new forest accredited by the Woodland Carbon Code helping to reduce flooding in the area, improve soil health and increase water conservation. THe project also works to improve public access and social programmes in the area.

FOREST PROTECTION IN ZIMBABWE

The Kariba Forest Protection Project in Zimbabwe creates opportunities and income for local communities by linking financial value to healthy + thriving forests and wildlife, rather than illegally logged or cut down areas. Through this project and education programmes, approximately 785,000 hectares of forest is protected along the southern shores of Lake Kariba

PEATLAND RESTORATION IN INDONESIA

Peatlands offer large capacities of natural terrestrial carbon storage and this project works together with local communities to restore and protect at-risk Indonesian peatlands in Katingan Mentaya. These peatlands offer vital biodiversity value, increase local employment and offer community support to develop the local economy.

FOREST PROTECTION IN COLOMBIA

The Concosta Forestry Project avoids deforestation and logging of native forests in Colombia, working to mitigate climate change, protect rich biodiversity and support local communities. Increased local employment and a closing of the social disparity gap major social sustainability benefits of this project.

METHANE AVOIDANCE IN SOUTH KOREA

The Sudokwon Landfill Gas Electricity Generation Project processes solid waste to generate clean, renewable energy while reducing methane emissions and increasing recovery of metals and other recyclable materials. Through the project, sanitation is improved through hygienic waste management, employment opportunities have been increased through jobs created in recycling materials and in a country where the majority of energy is imported, improvements have been made to circular resource management.

Through measuring and now taking action we are proud to be CARBON NEUTRAL for the years 2020-21. We have removed, mitigated and prevented 3099 TCO2e of carbon emissions and we will continue to offset our contributions in the years to come.

REDUCTION STRATEGY

REDUCTION STRATEGIES

The next steps are to put into effect new reduction strategies to decrease our overall carbon emissions, moving towards Net Zero as a business. While we’re not there yet, we’re putting in the work and we have some big goals.

Part of this work is implementing immediate-impact projects. Under the pillars Production, End-Of-Life and Overhead, we are actioning a series of projects that will lead to a decrease in our carbon footprint.

Production

  • Ship via sea rather than air whenever possible. For Gym+Coffee the difference between sea and air freight is 33x less in greenhouse gas emissions. For us, this means building longer timeframes into our design, development and campaign periods to ensure we’re limiting air freight.
  • Use recycled materials whenever possible. Our full product suite is made up of 35% sustainable apparel. 45% of new styles introduced in our 2022 Spring-Summer Collection are sustainable and in our Autumn-Winter Collection this will increase to 61%.
  • Engage suppliers to increase energy efficiency, decrease waste, adopt science-based targeting. We are in the data-collection stage with our partners and are assessing how we can improve our daily practices.
  • Supplier code of conduct improvements. Holding our suppliers and other partners accountable is an important part of our holistic approach to sustainability. We’ve had a Code of Conduct in place for some years but armed with new knowledge, we’re updating it. Our department heads are working to develop a clear, ethical Code of Conduct that will be rolled out to all suppliers, with the expectation that they will commit to this in its entirety.

End-of-Life

  • Encourage customers to compost the biodegradable poly bags rather than sending them to landfill.

Overhead

  • Switch to a renewable energy tariff, if available, allowing us to source up to 100% of our electricity from renewable resources.
  • Promote less carbon-intensive commuting for example, walking, biking, utilising public transportation over cars. Our team is encouraged to enrol in the Irish Bike To Work scheme, facilitating the purchase of cycling transportation at a lower cost to the individual.
